Climbers at climbing gyms throughout the province are attempting to climb the total height of the Seven Summits on Climbing Day in BC.
What are the Seven Summits?
The Seven Summits are comprised of the highest mountains on each of the seven continents of the Earth. Reaching the summit all of them is regarded as a significant mountaineering achievement. The Seven Summits include:
Africa - Mount Kilimanjaro - 5895 metres
Australia - Mount Kosciuszko - 2228 metres
South America - Mount Aconcagua - 6961 metres
North America - Mount Denali - 6194 metres
Antarctica - Mount Vinson - 4892 metres
Europe - Mount Elbrus - 5642 metres
Asia - Mount Everest - 8848 metres
TOTAL = 40,460 metres
How does it work?
On the evening of October 25, 2019 - Climbing Day in BC - participating climbing gyms will track the combined height of routes and problems climbed at their facility. We will add up the height of all climbs in the province to see if we can reach all Seven Summits.
